Albano Sgarbi ( EFIAP, Hon EFIAP ) San Marino national, born at Modena (Italy) in 1941.
In 1982 he began a career as photo-journalist for the San Marino National Olympic Committee and has been officially accredited at 5 Olympic Games as well as numerous world and European sports championships.
He is a member of the Association Internationale Presse Sportive (AIPS), of the Union Européenne Presse Sportive (UEPS) and of the Associazione Sammarinese Stampa Sportiva (ASSS) of which he was president between 1988 and 1996.
Since 1991, he has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (FIAP).
Between 1992 and 1999, he was technical director of the San Marino International Photomeeting, organised under the artistic direction of Franco Fontana.
In 1997, he was appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture as curator of the “San Marino Immagine” Photography Museum Centre.
A keen “traveller”, always in search of natural environments, people and civilisations of the past, a lover of Africa and the countries of the East, he has undertaken numerous assignments for and appeared in major travel and photography magazines.
He is the author of photographic books: “Momenti di storia” (1981); “San Marino oltre l'immagine” (1996); “San Marino dentro i Castelli” (1997), published by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of San Marino. “San Marino obiettivo sport” (1999) - “San Marino: I colori del Medioevo” (2001), published by the Ministry for Tourism, Trade and Sport. “Sguardo ad Oriente” (2005), published by Pazzini Editore.
He also edited the photos for the books: “San Marino: Città fortificata” (2001); “San Marino: Ordinamento e tradizione” (2004); San Marino: Vita e iconografia” (2005), published by the Ministry of Education.
Albano Sgarbi lives and works in San Marino.
