Honey hunting operation under the Satkhira, Bangladesh range of the “Sundarban” forest (UNESCO World Heritage) began on 1st April for three month long. More than 1000 honey hunters known as "Mawals" join the honey collecting operation every year. About 1, 20,000 kilograms of honey and 30,000 kilograms of beeswax would be collected from the Sundarban during honey hunting season. This is a dangerous occupation as many honey hunters die or injure in tiger attacks which are common in this area |
