World Photography - Photographers Artists in the World

My photographic Curriculum Vitae began in 1972. In that year I bought my first SLR camera, a Ricoh Singlex TLS and I joined the ‘Weesp Photo Club’. In the same year I acquired a black and white enlarger which enabled me to process my own photos. This was the beginning of my hobby, photography.
Right from the start photographing people interested me and over the years it became my passion.
It doesn’t matter what the people are like: black or white; fat or thin; poor or rich; gay or straight. Every person is unique and worth being photographed. I prefer photographing people in their natural environment. In their home, their street, at work, etc. When I’m abroad, I easily make contact with people, using sign language and a smile.
This often results in people allowing me to take their picture in their surroundings. To support my hobby of amateur photography I followed the course “Photojournalism” at The Photography School in Apeldoorn in 1990/1991, resulting in a professional qualification. Since 1999, whilst visiting Beijing, I have concentrated on the photojournalism style of photography, focussing, of course, on people.
In 2004, after a selection procedure and a workshop, I was chosen by the Rabobank Foundation to visit the coffee farmers in Honduras. I was joined by painters and writers. As a photographer I had to represent what the ‘Rabobank Development Programme’ means to the local farmers in poor countries. For me, this was a highlight during my thirty-two years of photographing people.
In 2007 I became one of the winners of the CGAP Microfinance Photography Contest. The CGAP is part of the ‘World Bank’ in Washington DC.
